BIS FOOTWEAR - OVERVIEW
The BIS certification for footwear guarantees that the products being supplied are of a certain quality and safety standard. The manufacturers seek certification, they are inspected and their products are also tested. If so compliant, they are allowed to use the BIS Standard Mark, also known as the ISI Mark. Using frequent audits and tests, ongoing compliance is ensured.
Today people focus on the quality and safety of products on the market, and the same concerns manufacturers and companies. The standardization of these requirements is the responsibility of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in the Indian footwear industry. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has recently made it mandatory for all footwear manufacturers to obtain BIS certification and that all footwear produced must conform to Indian Standards and be marked with the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a licence from the Bureau. This mandate points to the fact that BIS certification is crucial since it guarantees that the footwear products are fit for use as they have undergone the required quality, safety, and performance tests.
